Sonic the Hedgehog is still cool. In fact, Sonic is one of the coolest cartoon characters on Earth. Who doesn't like Sonic? Besides homicidal murderers and lawyers?

Not even Sega can kill Sonic, and you can't say they haven't been trying. Each Sonic game release since 1999 has gotten progressively worse, hitting rock bottom with the inane "Shadow the Hedgehog" in 2005. The media side hasn't been any better....they finally came out with a Sonic cartoon show that faithfully follows the official Sega take on him, but Sonic spends most of its episodes sleeping somewhere and the camera is constantly fixed on some annoying kid no one cares about. Get lost, Chris....no one wants to play with you.

I don't hate Sega though. Even though they have no idea how to properly market Sonic, they're one of the most creative companies in existence. There was more innovation in the two years of the Dreamcast's life than there ever will be in the six years of the PS2.

The past of Sega is full of what-ifs. What if the Saturn hadn't been a complete flop and we were enjoying Dreamcast 2's right now? What if the Sonic game for Saturn, "Sonic X-Treme," had been released? What if Sonic's Saturday Morning TV series included a pig in a leather jacket named "Porker Lewis"? What if Michael Jackson had written the music for Sonic 3? (He almost did.)

Next time you're sitting around the house and you suddenly wonder who that red pair of eyes belonged to in the last episode of the ABC Sonic cartoon, don't despair; run to any of the sites listed below. They solve more mysteries of the Blue Blur than you could ever hope to think of.

GREEN HILL ZONE

If it was released in electronic form and it had Sonic in it, it's covered in detail on this site. They even have info on THIS. How's that for thoroughnessity?

SECRETS OF SONIC TEAM

The companion site to Green Hill Zone, Secrets of Sonic Team covers hacked-out beta levels, unreleased games, and development secrets...and does it well. Very interesting and time-consuming. You'll look at your desk clock and find it's 2015.

SONIC HEADQUARTERS

Displays thorough information on all things Hedgehog that aren't from Yuji Naka.....the TV shows, the comic books, etc.

SENNTIENT

Christian Senn worked for Sega Technical Institute in the mid-90's and was involved with Sonic X-Treme until the bitter end--which was no picnic. Now, he's releasing all his production materials to the public on his website forum. You don't want to miss this.

THE MYSPACE PAGE OF TIARA BOOBOWSKI

Umm.....that'd be the Sonic-verse character designed by Chris Senn that the public never got to write bad fanfiction about ten years later. Tiara Boobowski is a Manx kitten with "the same 'tude as Sonic." She was part of Sonic X-Treme and Senn even created a test demo with a working model of her(and he also made this MySpace page, I guess to be cute). Think about how different Sonic literature would be today if this character had ever gotten out, and into official canon. She'd never hang with Chris, I can tell you that much.

SONICONTHE.NET

It's a bittorrent site for Sonic-related things that are just too large for anyplace else. The bad news is #1: you have to register, and #2: the torrents are all dead.

I guess that makes this link useless. But not as useless as......

THE MOST USELESS FONT EVER!

If you're on a PC, download this to C:/Windows/Fonts. Once you do, you will have the ability to type in Sonic characters! Everything you write will be unreadable, but the letter D will look like Knuckles!

For a more practical font, try this. It's based on the Sega logo and it's what I used to make the banner at the top.
