Listen sweetheart, a lot of people might buy your hippie crap, but there is a world of untapped power in the pursuit of true literature. And by "true" I mean "fiction." Horror, to be precise.

Writers like us have a responsibility. A responsibility to tell stories that other people want to hear. Not need to hear; I said "want." And what I know they want is balls-to-the-wall, psyche-shattering horror.

So take your altruistic views and scat before I start up a new horror novel with you as the first victim.

By "parasite," I'm going to assume you're referring to my book The Army that Ate the Universe, which is about an alien microbe from another dimension infecting a homeless man from Bristol, who goes about spreading the parasite to hundreds of unsuspecting townsfolk.

(People sometimes call them zombies. Zombies are old hat. They're done. I do not write about zombies. These are people turned into alien-human hybrids by a parasitic organism that reproduces in the pit of the stomach, which causes them to develop an intense craving for human flesh. It's totally different.)

But getting back to the point, I don't think you have a point. Where is the psyche shock? The element of your argument that compels in the reader a deep sense of surreal terror that haunts them for the rest of their lives, thus inspiring a concerted effort to better themselves? That's what writing is truly about.

The most surreal terror is that of reality, not of the aliens and monsters your literature dictates.

All right, so as an update, I've quit my job working for a non-profit job creation agency and am now contemplating becoming either a stockbroker or carjacker, whichever one I can get better dental with. And I just can't let the outrageous insult of calling our savior an altruist slide. Don't worry, Ayn, it's probably just a looter ploy to bring you down to their level.
