I'm nearing the end of my term at the community college. Teachers have seen my work and asked if I had thought about making something for the school paper. I had...for about three seconds. I've avoided it for two reasons: one, nobody reads it, and two, the rules are that whatever strip you send them has to be about college. Kind of limiting.
As (bad) luck would have it, I just started my final semester last week when suddenly an idea hit me on the head for a college strip that was so good, there was no way I could NOT do it--kind of a problem since its runtime would be three months at the most. My epiphany is this: to combine every bad teacher I've ever had into one character.
"Randy" is not me, he's just humorous-looking enough to be the main person to react to every dumb policy and crazy idea Sandy throws at her class. (Veteran readers may remember a "Randy" in Guava Guava that looked like this--this is indeed a revision of that character).
What a tragedy that most of what you see here probably won't see print at the college I'm currently at. There's a rule that most college comix have to be unfunny and look like they were drawn on wastepaper; maybe I should have intervened earlier (but I usually don't enter something without a good idea). Odds are good that if I go on to a four-year college I'll just move the idea there.
