It wasn't until 1996 that Nintendo sent out another video, about the N64. I don't have that, or any information on it, so it'll have to be skipped. But it was at this point that they put out videos like there was no tomorrow.

This one was promoting Starfox 64 and was sent out in the summer of 1997. It kind of goes like thus:

Two greasy dirtbags who wear Sony and Sega logos on their shirts emerge from their covert hiding places to nab a parachuting man who is apparently some kind of Nintendo Secret Agent in an Orange Jumpsuit who knows everything about Starfox 64. The Sega guy puts clorophyll on a napkin, the Sony Guy grabs the Agent and they knock him out. When he comes to, he finds himself tied to a chair and finds he must give the competition all the dirt on this new unbeatable game, or...

....OR THEY'LL SQUASH MARIO'S HEAD!! This should've been the point where most people pushed "EJECT" and wondered why they played this in the first place, but several people who own the promo tapes say this one's their favorite. Maybe it's because Nintendo rarely attacks their rivals this sharply, but to me it just looks totally dumb given the circumstances. Maybe Sony and Sega would have been kidnapping and interrogating Nintendo parachuters in 1990, but in 1997? They had nothing to worry about(well, Sega was even worse off, so they were worried). Nintendo had almost nothing to offer. It was seriously one of the worst years in their entire history. Other than the game spotlighted here and Goldeneye, there was nothing new and good on the N64. People first migrated to the Playstation because they had no choice. I don't think Nintendo really had anyone else to blame...

And so the captured man is forced to tell the two fat guys, and everyone else, everything he knows about STARFOX 64. The only problem with Starfox 64 is that it wasn't a new title per se. It was the original Starfox, only the way the creators had originally wanted it to play. It didn't even have a battery save to let you skip to your last level(because the original didn't have one either). Even still, it's better than what they do with Fox now. Lately the furry dynamo has been climbing out of his Arwing to shoot at things on the ground. No one buys a Starfox game to do this; from the beginning they were all about non-stop flying, shooting action. It may have been a remake, but it was done right. Plus, it had a special feature--and it was the first game to have it, and almost every game since has had it. It introduced....CONTROLLERS THAT SHAKE!!! Unseen until that time, it was a major selling point for Starfox 64...the game was packaged with the "Rumble Pak", which made the N64 controller wiggle.

The video introduces this fact by having the two "evil" people capture a scientist next and blackmail HIM in a similar manner(something else involving torturing Mario). Seeing no way out, he reveals the PAK and inserts it in, then lets them try it out with the game. "WHOA, I felt that!! This is awesome!!" they shout in amazement. To crush their spirits further, the orange guy sneers, "Do you think this is ALL? Check out what ELSE we've got lined up!!" They're shown clips from other upcoming Nintendo 64 games (I think it was everything that was coming out at all, but that of course wasn't said).

Most significant was a 5-second clip from "Zelda 64." Nintendo was still promising a fall '97 release. I wish they'd shown more.
"Man, we just can't BEAT you guys!" the two villains sigh, facing defeat. Orange Man takes the Starfox cart out, and they beg for it back. "Sorry, folks, you'll just have to go to the store." Regarding this one, I can't really "feel what I see." Swallowing anything in this ad-video would be kind of hard. It just makes me roll my eyes and despite what other people say, I vastly prefer the video that came out
six months later...
